humidors

What kind of humidor do you have? I have a chest humidor. I stands about 3 feet tall, has 2 drawers for single cigars, and some space at the bottom for boxes. I am looking at purchasing a larger unit, one that can hold more boxes and is temperature controlled. I live in Southern California, so most of the year temperature is not a major concern.

One of my brothers have a desk top humidor, but he smokes more cigars than me so they do not spend much time there. I also know people who use tubberware or large ziplock bags to store their cigars. As long as you let some air in I suppose they won't "suffocate!"

I've found some great web sites that sell cabinet style humidors. Check out www.aristocrathumidors.com. I have seen their products featured in various magazines and throughout the web. They offer many different sizes and styles, including temperature controlled models. I will be contact them later today to discuss my humidor needs, in fact.

trying new cigars

I have a few "staple" cigars that I know I can count on. However, I certainly enjoy trying new cigars. I would say most do not taste or perform as advertised. Sometimes they taste or smell nothing like the reviewers or tobacconist described. I find it is best to trust your own experiences as a cigar smoker and decide what cigars to try based on your own assumptions or desires. How does the wrapper look? Where is the filler tobacco from? Gently press the middle of the cigar to check if it is properly humidified or is it dried out (that is another topic). Smell the foot of the cigar. And of course check the price. Expensive doesn't always mean great. Sometimes yes, sometimes no.

Cigar Time

What time of day do you smoke? Morning, afternoon, or evening? Or all day long? I usually start smoking in the late afternoon, enjoying most smokes after dinner. Of course, what I smoke depends on the dinner I ate. Richer mean, richer cigar. I usually drink port with my cigars, but lately I've been drinking beer and fine rum as well. What drink do you enjoy with your cigars?

Over the Christmas holidays I plan on smoking a lot of cigars with my brothers and openning some of the vintage port we have been saving for a special occasion. We usually sit around the front porch after dinner and enjoy a few cigars!!
