Opus X Double Corona

Hello everyone:

I smoked an Opus X Double Corona the other night. I pulled it out of my humidor with great anticipation, especially since Cigar Aficionado rated it the Number 1 cigar. I don't know why I was so excited because I usually don't agree with their ratings and don't like a lot of the cigars that they gush over. The cigar was rolled perfectly, with a smooth, reddish-brown, oily wrapper. It was easy to light, and burned perfectly throughout the smoking experience. It started out with light tobacco flavors, with hints of citrus in the background. It was a smooth smoke. I was suprized how light and smooth it was. It burned cool to the end, developing a solid grey ash. It did not develop any strength or solid mouthfeel until the last 1/3 of the cigar, when it finally started to develop some character.

I'm amazed it was rated number 1. However, its had to judge the cigar after smoking 1 example. I think I still prefer the smaller sizes, especially the number 4's.

The Double Corona was a decent smoke. I would score it an 8 out of 10 if I had to assign a number to it. Maybe with age it would develop into a better smoke?
